USN star tennis player, George Corzine ‘19, is set to play NCAA Division III tennis next year at Swarthmore College outside of Philadelphia, PA. Corzine signed his letter of intent prior to his senior spring season here at USN back in February this year. He came into this season with the same mindset of competing hard and wanting to win, but with some relief that his plans next year are set in stone. So far, he is undefeated this year in singles and hopes to continue his successful path all of the way to the State Championship in Murfreesboro later in May.
Corzine says “I definitely feel looser now that I’ve made my decision and I feel like that helps me not overthink anything and be a little more confident in my abilities as a player.”
He admits he’s having more fun with High School tennis this year with being committed to Swarthmore. Once his final season as a Tiger concludes, he will continue his play with some important summer tournaments to keep him competitive before going to his new team in August later this year. He anticipates that his new coach will give him summer workouts to do, along with the tournaments he will play in. Summer tournaments are where Corzine gets the bulk of his competition, so he says he looks forward to competing with the confidence of knowing he’s going to play in college. Some of his upcoming summer tournaments include: two ITA tournaments, which are 16+ and draws in lots of college talent to compete in over the summer. Those two tournaments will be played in Murfreesboro, TN and Bloomington, IN.
